Bitung Waters Potential for High Waves
TRIBUNMANADO.CO.ID, BITUNG – The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency of Bitung Class II Maritime Classification provides an early warning of high-wave opportunities, Thursday (27/09/2018) in the waters of the eastern part of Bitung.
“The high wave is 1.25 – 2.5 meters. The opportunity is expected to occur starting tomorrow, 28-29 September,” said Ricky Aror, head of the observation and information section of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, Meteorology Unit Class II Maritime Bitung to Tribunmanado.co.id.
For fishing boats themselves, said Aror, wind speeds are more than 15 knots and wave height is above 1.25 m.
“For barges the wind speed is more than 16 knots and wave height is above 1.5 m,” he said.
Ferry boats wind speeds of more than 21 knots and wave heights above 2.5 m.
Whereas for large size vessels such as cargo ships or cruise wind speeds of more than 27 knots and wave heights above 4.0 m.
He continued, presumably this information could be noticed by the people of the city of Bitung who carry out activities in the waters by boat.
“Please note the high risk of shipping safety,” he said.
He added that the wave height is likely to occur east of the Sanghie archipelago, the waters of the Talaud Islands, and the Maluku sea. (chi).
