High Wave Potential in Some Indonesian Circles, This is the Appeal of BMKG

PONTIANAK – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) urges the public to always be aware of the potential for waves as high as * 1.25 to 4 meters * which are likely to occur in a number of Indonesian waters in the next few days * (July 29 – 31 2019). *

According to the BMKG, there are wind patterns in the northern part of the general equator from Southeast – Southwest at speeds of 4-20 knots, while in the southern equator it is generally from the East – South at speeds of 4 – 25 knots. The highest wind speed was observed in the waters south of Banten to West Java and the southern Strait of Makassar. This condition resulted in an increase in wave height around the area.

From the results of monitoring by BMKG, a number of territorial waters in Indonesia that have a high chance of occurring are * North Sabang, South Waters. Banggai – Sula, West Aceh Waters, South Waters P. Buru – Seram, West Waters P. Simeulue – Kep. Mentawai, Banda Sea, Bengkulu Waters, Seram Sea east part, West Indian Ocean Aceh – Nias, Waters Kep. High-wave potential in a number of these areas can pose a risk to shipping safety. To that end, BMKG always appealed to people who live or move on the coast, especially fishermen who use boats to be aware of wind speeds of more than 15 knots and wave height above 1.25 m, * barges * with wind speeds of more than 16 knots and wave height in above 1.5 m, * ferry * with wind speeds of more than 21 knots and wave height above 2.5 m, Large Size Vessels such as * Cargo ships / cruise ships * with wind speeds of more than 12 knots and wave height above 4.0 m to always alert.
