The spectacle of sailing comes to Brin pier Olbia

Have you ever seen up close the elegance of a sailboat as it veers? Have you ever heard the music of the sails when the wind swells? Or the adrenaline of sailors at the time of departure? Saturday, February 29 and Sunday, March 1 this show of emotion will be served to the public just a few meters from the ground. The Navy League of Olbia port J24 boats just inside the port with the zonal regatta. Just go to Brin pier to experience the race as if you were on board.

Everything is ready at the Navy League for the contest which will involve the J24 boats in a high rate of emotion challenge, with adrenaline-fueled races in adherence to Brin pier. Usually what the public can enjoy the races is the beauty of sails on the horizon. But Saturday, February 28 will be different. The J24, the 7.32 meter boats, will be just steps from the dock. One unmissable spectacle not only for fans but for anyone who loves the sea. Why not every day you hear closely sails that swell, the voice of the sailors decided to give the movement commands to the crews, the music of the wind.

There are already 12 entered crews who will share the 8 boats made available by the owners of the Sarda J24 fleet. From the technical point of view the Contest will be done with the “flights” formula. In practice, the boats, five at a time, will compete in mini regattas with routes to be performed up to 15 minutes. A formula that makes the exciting competitions because the sliding intersections and the close mark roundings tend to highlight the technical skills of the racers. Then there is the unstable wind direction, typical of the port area so close to the town, which helps make uncertain the result always keeping high the audience’s suspense ground.

At the Contest will participate definitely regional champions Surrau Vigne conducted by Aurelio Bini and Evero Niccolini. Also present will be historians crews of the J24 class as Boomerang, 12.1 Saint Lucia, Molara, Armadillo, Air-Fondazione di Sardegna (vessel of the organizing club), Northeast Construction Dolphins by Charter Consulting. To these are added other crews who have taken the opportunity to make use of the boats made available by the shipowners. These include the very strong crew of Sergio Contu helmed by David Schintu, one recently made by Pino Orrù and put team standing by Roberto and Silvia Cuboni Abis.

The Navy League, which organized the event, put in water a top-level organization to make sure that everything runs smoothly, both at sea and on land. At the end of each of the two days of challenges are planned spaghetti dinners for racers. A truck bars during the race will provide drinks and food to spectators and racers.
