Marseille – The penultimate day of racing in Hyères brings a fantastic gold medal to Italy. The winner is the Fiamme Azzurre athlete, Mattia Camboni, who has literally dominated the whole week of races coming to win the gold medal even before the Medal Race; too wide the gap of the blue from the second in the standings, the French Thomas Goyard.
Mattia Camboni: “It has been a very long week with 15 tests completed and winning the day before the Medal with two tests in advance gives a great satisfaction. From the beginning I felt very good, having closed the first day of little wind in a good position confirmed my feelings, then in the days with a strong and gliding wind I defended myself very well and I was always constant, never going down under the ninth position. I am delighted to have won here in Hyères and now I’m going to celebrate. ”
Other good news from the Italian expedition to France comes from Daniele Benedetti (SV Guardia di Finanza), third with a single point of detachment from the second and from Marta Maggetti (SV Guardia di Finanza), fifth, who then arrive at tomorrow’s Medal Race respectively in the men’s RS: X and in the women’s RS: X.
For the other Italians present in Hyères tomorrow there will be a last fleet race to decide the positions from 11 onwards. They are involved in the Final Race:
Special Giorgia (CC Aniene), 18th in RS: female X and
Carlo Ciabatti (CV Windsurfing C. Cagliari), 17th; Luca Di Tomassi (LNI Civitavecchia), 22nd; Matteo Evangelisti (LNI Civitavecchia), 27th and Nicolò Renna (CS Torbole), 35th in the men’s RS: X.
For tomorrow the Medal Races and Final Races will be scheduled for all classes in the competition and a closing ceremony will be held on 51ESIMA Semaine Olympique Française de Hyères with the related awards.
